John Furlong

Died 9th December 2009

A granite seat was erected in January 2011 at the Lourdes Grotto by the
Furlong family in memory of their parents John (our late Sacristan) and Colette.
The seat was blessed by Canon Battele after the 7.30pm Mass on Monday 14th February 2011.

John Furlong died peacefully on Wednesday 9th December 2009 at home.
His remains arrived in the church at 5.30pm on Friday 11th December.  
John's funeral Mass took place on Saturday 12th December and burial afterwards to Kilmashogue Cemetery.

John Furlong or Johnny as he was more popularly known retired on 31st December 2007 as Sacristan after 22 years dedicated service.

John received one of the highest Papal awards that can be bestowed on a lay person - the 'Bene Merenti' (meaning well deserved) medal.
John was presented with the award during a special Mass on Saturday 14th June'08 in recognition of his years of dedicated service as
Sacristan & for his voluntary work in the Parish.
